Asbestos Surveys
| Regulation
4 of The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (2002)
places a duty on anyone responsible for the maintenance
of commercial, industrial and public properties as
well as common areas of domestic properties, to have
a management plan in place for asbestos containing
materials. In practice, the majority of dutyholders
are undertaking asbestos survey programmes to partially
comply with this requirement. |
|
ACS are UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation
Service) accredited for asbestos surveying. Under ISO
17020, ACS are able to carry out Type 1, 2 and 3 surveys
and provide risk assessments and risk prioritisation.
Companies undertaking asbestos surveying work must now
work to the requirements of the HSE Publication MDHS 100-
Surveying, Sampling and Assessment of Asbestos Containing
Materials. During Type 2 and Type 3 surveys, samples would
be taken of all materials suspected to contain asbestos.
These samples would be transported to the nearest ACS
UKAS accredited laboratory for analysis in full accordance
with HSE Publication HSG 248.
On completion of the site work, the
results of the survey would be submitted as a formal written
report with a copy also provided on CD ROM. This would
include a proposed course of action, where asbestos is
identified, and would provide a proper risk assessment
of the building in accordance with HSE Publications HSG
227 and MDHS 100, not simply a survey for the presence

asbestos removal works
- leak testing during asbestos removal works
- re-assurance testing to investigate cleanliness of air
- personal monitoring
- background measurements
- RPE assessments
Bulk Analysis
ACS have in-house UKAS accredited
laboratory facilities for carrying out asbestos fibre
identification. All bulk analysis undertaken by ACS staff
is carried out under UKAS accredited procedures, to the
