Contaminated Land
There is an increasing drive by Central
Government towards the redevelopment of Brownfield Sites
(sites with a former industrial or commercial use). Increasingly,
either at the pre-purchase stage or within the early stages
of re-development, a site investigation of the land is required.
This may be to satisfy planning requirements or for 'piece
of mind' for the developer/financier. Contaminated land
investigations are normally carried out in phases.
Phase I is a desktop
study of the site, which involves a theoretical study
of potential contaminants on the land. This would
involve an examination of the historical uses of the
site and would indicate any potential contaminants
that could occur from these previous activities.
Phase II involves intrusive investigative techniques
such as digging trial pits or bore holes and the sampling
nd analysis of soil to determine the presence and
level of any contaminants. |

A full written report would be produced upon completion
of the site work.
ACS technical staff are also able to offer additional services
such as advice on remediation strategy or waste disposal
and guidance on safe working practices for personnel working
on the site.
