Sustainable Development
A 'Sustainable
Community' is one that survives long-term by undergoing
economic and social development without adversely affecting
the environment in which the community is based. Economic
development, in particular, is essential for a successful
sustainable community as it ultimately generates the funds
needed to improve both social and environmental conditions.
The ACS approach to sustainable development
is based on Economic Regeneration which takes into account
environmental issues and social inclusion. ACS is adept
at working with partnerships to make these projects successful,
notably local businesses and communities, local authorities
and local enterprise companies.
Prof Roger Willey was a member of the
Secretary of State for Scotland's Advisory Group on Sustainable
Development for many years. Experiences gained in this
group and from working with communities worldwide have
been put into practice in developing and managing projects
such as the award winning Girvan Sustainable Communities
Project.
